San Roque De Cumbaza
The district of San Roque de Cumbaza, is located in the Province of Lamas, San Martin region 356 meters above sea level, seated in the buffer zone area 'Cordillera Escalera' Regional Conservation. 45 minutes from the city of Tarapoto, via dirt road. 41% of its population is made up of native Quechua communities Lamistas.
As part of the Upper Valley Cumbaza, San Roque has a mountainous geography giving us stunning views, refreshing pools in the river, streams and waterfalls set in a magical location.
Folk Capital of San Martin is located 25 kms from San Roque. It is today inhabited by descendants of the Chanca culture of ancient Peru that one time became the main rival for the Incas in the Peruvian mountains. After their failed attempt to conquer the city of Cuzco, found refuge in the area that is now Lamas, where even today you can see the villagers in traditional clothing. This city is surrounded by beautiful scenery.Though only 6 degrees south of the Equator, due to being surrounded by mountains, the region where you will be living enjoys a benignand healthy climate and has spectacular views of virgin hillsides, dense tropical woodland.
Directions; San Roque De Cumbaza is situated forty minutes outside the city of Tarapoto. You can ask any Motor Taxi in Tarapoto to take you to the 'Camunettas para San Roque' The price is always 5 soles, do not pay anymore. Alternatively someone will collect you from the Airport.
Climate- San Roque has a warm and humid climate. The temperature varies from 24 to 26 degrees C. The rainy season is from December to February and the summer months from June to November.
Nearly 77% of its territory is composed of Areas of Protection and Conservation due to its biodiversity in fauna and forests.
